River pollution is a story of our time declared John Darvall, presenter of BBC Bristol Radio to Aggie and I as we chatted about our film in the BBC Bristol studios. We have been in the studio a few times recently and are learning as we go!
OUR FIRST APPEARANCE ON THE TODAY PROGRAMME
I dropped the word orgasmic to six million listeners of the Today Programme when describing the sounds winter swimmers make in my film. In my defence I wasn't sufficiently alert due to not receiving a strong enough coffee in the studio! Founder of Conham Bathers, who features in Rave On For The Avon as a river campaigner who knows all about river pollution.
Becca Blease joined me as we chatted to Justin Webb about how love drives campaigners, they don't just enjoy being angry.
WE WERE INVITED BACK TO THE TODAY PROGRAMME- OUR SECOND APPEARANCE
More recently I was invited to join Dame Glenys Stacey, Chair of the Office for Environmental Protection on BBC Four’s Today Programme to about the main failings of the Government’s charter for rivers (The Water Framework Directive) and particularly the lack of local perspective for our many rivers and lakes.
This is why we have created the Thriving Avon Charter which we will present at the next screening of Rave On For The Avon on Sat 15th June at The Tobacco Factory.
THIRD TIME IS A CHARM ON THE TODAY PROGRAMME- OUR THIRD APPEARANCE
Our most recent appearance on BBC Four’s Today Programme featured our first sampling result of the swimming season which I recorded and was delighted to have not dropped the recorder in the river!
AGGIE AND I ON BBC BRISTOL RADIO
Co-founder of Eighty Sita Productions and Co-Producer on Rave On For The Avon documentary film, Aggie and I shared a fantastic conversation with John Darvall and his BBC Radio Bristol show. John could spot that we were passionate about our beautiful patch of the Avon and shared his hope that future generations can continue to explore the free blue spaces, which we are so lucky to have in Bristol. When asked how bad pollution levels have been when I've tested the water, I managed to stop myself from saying the Avon is full of s***! See... I'm learning.
You can listen to the highlights of the discussion on this link and the full interview is up on our youtube channel.
